Remote

obtain
enhanced
system-management
capabilities,
beyond
those
of
the
integrated
BMC.
The
Remote
Supervisor
Adapter
II
SlimLine
has
a
dedicated
Ethernet
connection
at
the
rear
of
the
server.
This
section
describes
how
to
set
up,
cable,
and
configure
the
Remote
Supervisor
Adapter
II
SlimLine
so
that
you
can
manage
the
server
remotely.
In
addition
to
the
information
in
this
section,

the

User’s
Guide
for
information
about
how
to
configure
and
use
the
Remote
Supervisor
Adapter
II
SlimLine
to
manage
the
server
remotely
through
the
Web-based
interface

Note:
The
Web-based
interface
and
text-based
interface
do
not
support
double-byte
character
set
(DBCS)
languages.
Requirements
Make
sure
that
the
following
requirements
are
met:

The
web
interface
Remote
Disk
function
requires
the
client
system
to
be
running
Microsoft
Windows
2000
or
later.
The
web
interface
Remote
Control
features
require
the
Java
™
1.4
Plug-in
or
later.
The
following
web
browsers
are
supported:

Microsoft
Internet
Explorer
version
5.5
or
later
with
the
latest
Service
Pack
–
Netscape
Navigator
version
7.0
or
later
–
Mozilla
version
1.3
or
later

If
you
plan
to
configure
Simple
Network
Management
Protocol
(SNMP)
trap
alerts
on
the
Remote
Supervisor
Adapter
II
SlimLine,
install
and
compile
the
management
information
base
(MIB)
on
your
SNMP
manager.

You
will
need
an
Internet
connection
to
the
client
system
to
download
software
and
firmware
from
the
IBM
Support
Web
site
during
the
installation
process.

Connect
one
end
of
a
Category
3
or
Category
5
Ethernet
cable
to
the
dedicated
systems-management
Ethernet
connector
for
the
Remote
Supervisor
Adapter
II
SlimLine.
2.
Connect
the
other
end
of
the
cable
to
the
network.

SlimLine
is
on

far
right
as
you
face

rear
