ATTENTIVE CARE BEAUTIFUL PLANTS
The plant monitor is a measuring instrument that tells you about the level of soil moisture or
dryness in the area of the root or in the centre of the pot It therefore helps with decision making
when watering.Naturally enough the frequency and amount of watering depends on the type of
room plant. Observe the instructions for care in specialist books and on information labels when
purchasing plants. To assist in watering plants we have created four separate groups.
Group 4 = Plants that like plenty of moisture
This group includes: galingale, eton crop, bamboos, etc.
The care instructions for these plants contain information such as „keep moist“, „stand in sau
-
cer containing water“, „place pot in water“, etc.
The soil moisture indicator for plants in this group should always indicate 2, 3 or 4 bars. The
display should never fall to one bar.
Group 3 = Plants that like moisture
This group includes: hydrangeas, azaleas, oleanders, rubber plants (Ficus), banana plants,
boxwood, ferns, palms, philodendrons, etc.
The care instructions for these plants contain information such as „water copiously“, „keep
moist“ etc.
The soil moisture indicator for plants in this group should always indicate 2 or 3 bars. The
display may also fall temporarily to one bar.
Group 2 = Plants that like average amounts of moisture
This group includes: small citrus trees, zantedeschia, African violet, poinsettia, orchids, bego
-
nias, diverse spice plants
The care instructions for these plants contain information such as „keep moderately moist“, „in
winter keep almost dry“, etc.
The soil moisture indicator for plants in this group should always indicate 1 or 2 bars.
Group 1 = Plants that like dry conditions
This group includes: Cacti, Lithops, aloe, etc.
The care instructions for these plants contain information such as „only water when soil is
dry“, „slightly damp“, „keep dry in winter“, etc.
The soil moisture indicator for plants in this group should always indicate 1 bar, which should
only be exceeded on watering. The plant soil may be dry for a few days.
Note:
For group 1 plants the alarm signal should be switched off otherwise it will sound all the time.
Note that the plant sensors are intended only for soil, not for hydro-culture or clay granules.
When watering take into account the location of the plants: The darker and cooler the locati
-
on, the less water the plant requires.
Of course, the plant pots used also determine the amount of watering required. As clay pots
are very porous the water required for them is greater than for metal or plastic pots.
Note that plants that have not been cared for may in certain circumstances have difficulty in
responding to a new, correct care regime.
We cannot be held liable for damage caused by treatment that is not appropriate for the
respective plant group.
