2.
Step into the operator’s compartment. Press the
operator sensing switch and the brake pedal to release the
brake and allow lift truck operation.
3.
Turn key switch to the
ON
position. All indicator lamps
on the dash display should light. The dash display will indi-
cate warning or fault statements.
4.
Move the multi-function control handle for forward or
reverse travel.
Contact authorized maintenance personnel if a warning or
fault statement appears on the dash display. (
Do Not
operate the truck until the problem is corrected.)
Driving and Direction Changes
The operator can change the direction of travel while the lift
truck is moving by moving the control handle in the opposite
direction. This action uses the motor for braking and is
called
PLUGGING
. Plugging can take place at any travel
speed. The lift truck will come to a stop and then accelerate
in the opposite direction. Plugging is a normal method used
to stop the lift truck and is proportional to how much the
control handle is moved in the opposite direction.
To stop the lift truck quickly, step off the brake pedal to apply
the brake.
Steering (Turning)
WARNING
Travel slowly when turning. Lift trucks can tip over
even at very slow speeds. The combination of speed
and the sharpness of a turn can cause a tipover.
A lift truck is less stable when
the forks are raised, with or
without a load. Most operators
can understand the need to be
careful when handling loads.
But some operators do not
realize that a tipover can occur
with an empty lift truck be-
cause similar dynamic forces
are present. The lift truck will
actually tip over easier when
empty, than when loaded with
the load lowered. Backward tilt, off center load and
uneven ground will aggravate these conditions.
