Starter
Replacing the drive
Remove the drive disc by unscrewing
the 2 screws that keep it in place at the
fl ywheel.
Replacing the drive
Unscrew the spark plug.
Position the piston stop, 522 43 18-01, in
the spark plug hole so that it lies between
the piston and the top of the cylinder.
Remove both screws (A) and lift off the
drive disc.
Fit the starter handle.
Fit the starter handle on the cord.
Run the starter cord through the handle
and make a knot in the starter cord.
Pull the cord into the handle.
Replace the drive dogs if they are worn or
defective.
Replace the drive dogs if they are worn or
defective.
Prize off the circlip using a small screw-
driver.
Assemble in the reverse order as set out
for dismantling.
Fit the starter in place on the fan housing
cover and check that it works.
Do not forget the plate washer under
the starter. Turn the washer so that the
protruding collar faces down towards the
fl ywheel.
Tighten the return spring.
Check the spring tension.
Tighten the return spring.
Pull out the starter cord completely and
check that the recoil spring is entirely
loose.
Lift the starter cord up out of the cut-out
on starter pulley.
Then turn the starter pulley clockwise 7
to 8 times.
Check the spring tension. With the cord
completely pulled out the cord pulley
should be able to be turned at least an-
other half revolution.
