6. Troubleshooting
PROBLEM
POSSIBLE CAUSE
SOLUTION
No picture or sound
No signal is reaching your television
due to a possible break in the signal
path.
Ensure that all equipment has been
switched on and that all coaxial
connectors have been fitted
correctly.
Snowy picture
Your signal is too weak.
Use a masthead aerial amplifier to
improve the signal quality from the
UHF aerial down-lead. Also, ensure
that your aerial is positioned
correctly (pointing at your local TV
transmitter). Replace corroded
aerials.
Herringbone pattern
Too strong signal or local high-power
transmitter such as CB, amateur or
taxi radios.
Use a signal attenuator to reduce the
gain of your aerial signal. Point your
aerial at an alternative transmitter in
order to receive a more suitable
signal level.
Problems with DTT
Insufficient or too strong digital
signal.
Fit a suitable wide-band, high-gain
aerial to help improve the signal
quality to a suitable level. Fit a signal
attenuator between the aerial and
the DTT receiver to weaken the
signal.
Problems with satellite televisions
Loose connection.
Check that all cables and connectors
are properly inserted.
