Upgrading Video Memory To Improve Resolution and Increase
the Number of Displayed Colors
HP Dynamic Video
In Windows 95 and Windows for Workgroups, you can improve the
appearance of images on your display without costly dedicated video
memory upgrades using HP Dynamic Video. You do not need to
physically add new memory, instead you make upgrades by using a
control panel (Windows 95) or the HP Setup Program (non-Windows
95).
If you work mostly with text and basic graphics, 1 MB of video memory
is sufficient. If you need high resolution or more than 256 colors and
you have at least 12 MB of main memory installed, use the 2 MB video
setting.
Note that when you increase the video memory to 2 MB from 1 MB, the
main memory (used for applications and open documents) is reduced
by a corresponding 1 MB.
To change the video memory setting
For Windows 95
1
Open the Display control panel.
2
Click the “HP Dynamic Video” tab.
3
Set the video memory size (1 MB or 2 MB). System memory resizes
accordingly.
4
For the video memory change to take effect, restart the PC.
For Windows 3.11 and
other operating
systems
Use the HP Setup Program (see chapter 3, The HP Setup Program).
