Hardware Installation Procedures
Installing the Hardware onto the USB or Parallel Port
1. Connect the hp bt1300 directly to either the USB or IEEE 1284-compliant parallel port of the
printer as shown below. You cannot use both connections simultaneously.
If you connect the hp bt1300 to the parallel port, be sure to secure the metal locking clasps
located on each side of the parallel connector to prevent the hp bt1300 from being accidently
disconnected.
If you connect the hp bt1300 to the USB port of the printer, use the supplied Velcro tabs to
attach the printer adapter to the printer or other convenient surface.
IMPORTANT:
The hp bt1300 can be connected to either a USB or parallel connection. You cannot use
both connections simultaneously.
2. Plug the power supply module into a suitable AC wall outlet, and then plug the power supply cable
into the hp bt1300 as shown below. When power is applied to the hp bt1300, the blue and amber
LEDs on the device will blink momentarily as it performs self-checking diagnostics. Refer to
Chapter 5 – Troubleshooting
in this user’s guide for detailed LED status light descriptions.
NOTE:
If you are using the USB connection, the external power supply is required.
