Mains power supply indicator light

When lit, denotes mains power to unit.

Channel indicator lights

When lit, denote controlled DC power to appropriate

output terminals. Brighten as power increases.

Channel “ON/OFF” & speed controls

In the fully anti-clockwise position, there is no power

to the controlled DC output and the appropriate light

is “OFF”. Turn knob clockwise to switch on power and

control speed of train. Indicator light will come on.

direction switches

Set switch to either of the two positions to achieve

required train direction. Actual direction will depend

on individual layout wiring arrangements.

DC Controllers.

Output Terminals

1.  Channel  1 controlled DC – 550mA maximum
2.  Channel  2 controlled DC – 550mA maximum
3.  Auxiliary  AC

300mA – maximum

4.  Auxiliary  DC

shared (see note 2)

Please Note:

1.  There is no output from the two outer, unmarked,

pairs of terminals. They have been incorporated for

possible use in future developments.

2.  Output terminals 3 and 4 can be used for a variety

of electrically-operated accessories such as remotely

controlled points, colour light signals etc. It is important

that the accessory manufacturer’s instructions be

carefully followed to determine whether AC or DC

supply is required.

3.  For electrical specification, see label on underside of

unit base.

safety Notes

•  This Power Controller is not suitable for children under 14 years of age, and is for indoor use only.

•  The Power Controller should be examined regularly for damage to casing, plug, power supply cable

and output wires. In the event of damage to the power supply cable, please replace with a Hornby

recommended cable. This can be obtained from your Hornby Service Dealer. If any part of the Power

Controller unit is damaged, it should not be used until repaired or replaced.

•  Before cleaning the Power Controller, or any part of the set, remove the mains plug from the wall socket.

Do not use liquid for cleaning.

•  The train set must not be connected to more than the recommended number of power supplies.

•  WARNING – The 16 volt AC output terminals of two or more Transformers, or any type of Mains

Powered Controller, must never be connected together, or to circuits which may accidentally become

connected together. The “D” Connectors transfer 16 volt AC current between HM 2000 and HM 2000+

units, so never attempt to connect two HM 2000 Power Controllers together either directly or via an

HM 2000+ DC Controller.

•  The Power Unit case should not be opened. It has no customer repairable components. A repair service is

available from Hornby Hobbies Limited.

•  Please retain this leaflet for future reference.

•  Do not plug any other product into the “D” connectors.

•  The leads are fitted with terminal plugs which suit R602

Hornby Power Connecting Clip (Fig. 3). For other track

systems refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for track

connection details.

•  If necessary the wires can be changed over in the track

connector to reverse the direction of the train in relation

to the direction switch position.

Note

The two controlled DC channels are supplied from separate,

isolated transformer windings and are therefore not affected

by Common Return problems.

safety Cut-Outs

The two controlled DC channels are protected by separate Polyswitch safety cut-outs and the two auxiliary

circuits are protected by a third Polyswitch. If any of these circuits are subjected to short-circuit or

overheating conditions the power will be shut off to the affected circuit.
This would be indicated by the Mains indicator light going off in the case of an auxiliary circuit fault, and the

appropriate channel indicator light going off if a Controlled DC channel is affected.
Cut-outs can be reset by switching off the mains power socket, or pulling out the plug, for 45-60 seconds.

The fault should be corrected before switching on the power again.
In the event of extreme overheating conditions, a “one-time” thermal fuse will “blow” to protect the Power

Controller. In this event, the Power Controller should be sent to Hornby Hobbies Limited, for attention.

Mains Electricity Supply Cable Connection

Connecting up

•  Connect the Power Supply Cable to its socket in the back of the

Power Controller and fit the Mains Plug into a wall socket.

•  Two connecting leads are supplied for the DC controlled

channels. Connect the pairs of stripped wire ends to the output

terminals marked “1” and “2” by lifting the spring loaded clips,

inserting the wire ends and releasing the clips. (See Fig. 2).

•  Make sure the wire ends are securely retained by the output

terminals. Use the other ends of the leads for connection to your

two train tracks.
