4.3 WLS Non-Contact Switch Series Operation
The WLS Non-Contact Switch contains a reed switch that requires a magnetic actuator to operate. The WPMM or WDRR Series moni-
tor/receiver output changes state with the presence and absence of the magnetic actuator. The chosen magnetic actuator will affect
the operating characteristics of the WLS Non-Contact Switch (i.e., operating point and release point). The WLS Non-Contact Switch is
supplied with a WMG1 magnetic actuator that offers a 0.150 in min. operating point and 0.600 in release point when used in a head-
on actuation mode (see Figure 7). Honeywell magnet, WMG2, offers a 0.45 in min. operating point and 1.0 in release point when used
in a head-on actuation mode. The user may choose his/her magnetic actuator that needs to be tested in the application to determine
suitable operating characteristics.
Another common type of actuation mode is “slide-by,” that requires set-up and testing in the user’s application to determine suitability
(see Figure 8). The gap between the WLS Non-Contact Switch head and magnet can be varied via trial testing to achieve a suitable
operating point and release point for the application.
Set-up/Information tips (The user will need to test chosen magnet(s) and actuation mode(s) against the actual application conditions
to prove suitability):
• Center the magnet actuator with the center of the red target on the WLS Non-Contact Switch head
• Position the magnet to be parallel to the WLS Non-Contact Switch head
• Surrounding ferrous metal or magnetic fields in the application may affect the operating characteristics and desired functionality
• Temperature changes affect operating characteristics
• Do not apply excessive shock to the WLS Non-Contact Switch
• Do not expose the WLS Non-Contact Switch or magnetic actuators to excessively large magnetic fields
