b. Starter turns, but the engine will not start.
1. Verify the condition of the battery; 12 volts or more at the control box (+) terminal to the generator
chassis ground.
2. Check engine conditions:
a. Compression, repair as necessary.
b. Fuel system
•
Fuel in tank
•
Check the carburetor bowl for contaminates. Clean as necessary.
•
Is the carburetor getting fuel?
•
Check for clogged fuel line or filter.
•
Check fuel pump operation.
c. Choke
•
Does the choke system operate properly?
d. Ignition system
•
If no spark: disconnect the ignition primary lead (black lead with the bullet connector near the oil
fill) from the control box and recheck spark.
If spark: engine still will not start.
If after following the steps in
in the base shop manual, it is concluded that the engine is
fine (the engine will run only if the black primary ignition wire is unplugged), then there are two final checks
for the control box.
