Before installing the motor cowlings on the main wings you must make a decision as
to how you will set up your motor and ESC. You have two options, your choice of
which will depend on personal preference and ESC size:

1.

(Recommended)

Mount the ESCs in each cowling and extend the battery wires

into the fuselage. The servo lead of most ESCs should reach without requiring
extension. The battery leads should be only as long as is necessary. Needless
to say if you do not have any experience soldering and using heat-shrink then
seek assistance from someone who does.

2.

Extend the motor wires by soldering 10” lengths of 12AWG directly to the motor
wires and soldering bullet connectors to these. This is the best option if you
have two new motors that were supplied without pre-soldered bullet
connectors. Alternatively you can make extension wires with a male bullet on
one end and a female on the other. Ensure that you use the correct size bullet.
Also, do not make the wires longer than they need to be. This is important. 10”
is a guide but this will of course vary depending on the initial length of the
motor wires. Size them so that only 40-50mm (1.5” - 2”) protrudes from the
main wings.

Attempt the first method to begin. Fit your ESC on the outside of the wooden motor
mount and dry-fit the cowling. If the ESC and motor mount foul then determine if the
ESC will fit inside the wooden mount. You will need to remove a small amount of wood
using a craft knife. If not you will need to proceed with the second method.

These motor cowlings are secured to the main wings using three screws as depicted
below. To finish this step, add props and spinners to each motor. Ensure that each
prop rotates in the correct direction. If not, swap two wires between the motor and
ESC.
