Guarantee
Hillhout gives a 10 year guarantee for your log cabin, garden building or outdoor cabin against wood rot and a 2 year factory
guarantee on the construction of its products. You can find our guarantee conditions on our website www.hillhout.com
The guarantee is not valid if:
t
Damage is caused by people, animals or nature violence.
t
Problems are raised due to a poor base / foundation.
t
Poor maintenance is kept.
More tips:
t
Before laying the foundation, cables for electricity and service pipes need to be laid out. Bear in mind that you need sufficient
length to meet the warping of wood. Also, make sure that the fastening clips are big enough.
t
If desired you can insure your log cabin, garden building or outdoor cabin against damage from outside, including vandalism and
stormy weather. Contact your insurance agent about the possibilities.
t
Your log cabin, garden building or outdoor cabin has to be properly anchored against stormy weather conditions.

t
We will process your claim carefully and send replacement parts as soon as possible. Claims concerning materials that have been
painted cannot be accepted.
Base / foundation
t
The foundation beams must be placed on a sturdy, level and flat foundation.
t
Always place a log cabin slightly higher than the surface level. This prevents flooding.
t
Use silicone lute to seal the junction between the base and the wooden foundation beams. After the assembly you also can use
silicone lute along the outside.
Space above the log cabin door
Because of the natural working of wood, the log cabin can expand or shrink. To meet the working of wood, a crack is foreseen
above the door. In ‘dry circumstances’ this crack is covered by a slat (so the crack is invisible). A Hillhout log cabin is standard
pressure treated. During the impregnation process the wood gets humid and expands. The drying of the log cabin depends on the
weather conditions of that moment. The wood can expand up to 0,5 cm per wall beam. If the log cabin is not completely dry, the
crack will be visible above the door (the slat cannot completely cover the crack). When the wall beams shrink by dry weather, the
crack will shrink too. Because of the working of wood (weather conditions), doors and windows may stick sometimes.
Fixing the roof
Fix the wood for the roof with 2 nails per fixation point (side wall and roof beams). If you use 1 nail only per fixation point, the roof
wood can swell.
Tongue and groove of the wall beams
It is possible that the tongue and groove are partially damaged during transportation. As long as the system (tongue and groove)
is guaranteed during the assembly, it does not portray a reason to claim. Build a log cabin carefully, especially the end of the wall
beams are vulnerable (the so called ‘noses’). Slight damage to the tongue and groove does not effect the stability of your cabin.
