THE CONCEPT
Hip’Safe is a wearable airbag that protects the hips in case of fall. When a fall is detected both
airbags deploy automatically (in 0,08 seconds) above the hips to ensure an optimal protec-
tion before ground impact.

AIRBAG PROTECTION
The airbags are made and tested in our workshop in Dijon. They are made of ultra strong nylon
which absorbs and resists the shock. When the air cushions are totaly inflated, the maximum
pressure is about 200 mbar. Then the pressure decreases progressively thanks to a decom-
pression leak.
ALGORITHM AND ELECTRONIC SYSTEM
The belt includes an electronic system (situated inside the belt behind the CO2 cartridge and
not accessible for the user). It uses a complex algorithm and powerful sensors which analyze
more than 1000 times per second people's motion in context and can determine if the per-
son is walking or falling down.
The fall is detected in 200 ms, the airbags inflate in 80ms. The person is fully protected in
280 ms.
