MediaDirector system overview
Review the MediaDirector system overview to help plan your system before installing.
A basic Spectrum system with the MediaDirector 2252B-DS, 2252B, or 2251B consists of the following
components:
• One SystemManager platform or one SystemManager application installed on a customer-supplied
PC.
• One MediaDirector and up to six MediaStores 5000 series that can optionally be connected to a
redundant MediaDirector in an extended file system (EFS) configuration. Note the EFS configuration
requires a separate license.
• Three Spectrum Xs in a shared storage configuration or three MediaPort7000 series with I/O modules
installed, rack trays, Cat-6 Ethernet cables, and rack mounting kits (mounting kits for the MediaPort
chassis must be ordered separately).
• Serial-attached SCSI (SAS) cables.
• Latest version of the Spectrum system software and the SystemManager software.
• One DHCP server or a system with DHCP enabled.
• One NTP server.
• (Optional) one controlling application (for example, program automation system).
• (Optional) one EAS system (for use with ChannelPort modules only).
The following figure illustrates a Spectrum system layout with two MediaDirectors, connected via an EFS
Ethernet connection, with shared storage across four MediaStore 5100 or 5000 series units, and three
Spectrum Xs or MediaPort 7000 series units.
