9500 Upgrade Utility Procedures
for Upgrading from Pocket PC 2003 SE to Windows Mobile 5.0
Hand Held Products Upgrade is a system developed for the Dolphin family of Mobile
Computers to easily install updates to various system software components. HHPUpgrade
can update the kernel, boot loader, and / or keyboard firmware. These components can be
transferred to the device over any available communications link (ActiveSync, 802.11b, etc.).
The upgrade components may also be pre-staged on an SD card.
Hand Held Products Upgrade files are distributed as a single upgrade file. The files have
“.upg” extension (i.e.
FileName.upg
). The upgrade files typically contain a matched kernel,
bootloader, and keyboard image. The upgrade file does not update files in the persistent file
store (e.g. \IPSM files).
Each Dolphin terminal is licensed for a single copy of Microsoft’s PocketPC 2002, Windows
Mobile for PocketPC 2003 or Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. If you are upgrading to
a different version of the operating system (i.e. from PPC2003 to Windows Mobile 5.0) you
are required to obtain a license key for the upgraded operating system. Please contact your
local account representative for instructions on how to obtain a license key.
!! Warning !!
Upgrading a device without obtaining a valid license key will
render the device unusable. You will be forced to reload the
licensed operating system version manually.
Once a device has been successfully upgraded, you may use the HHP Replication utility to
upgrade other devices. However, each upgraded device will require a unique license key.
