Confi gure TCP/IP Protocol
Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click ==> Properties.
Select “Use the following IP address” and enter an IP address
as explained above (for example, 192.168.1.1. for the 1st PC).
Select 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask. Afterwards, confi rm
your entry with ==> OK ==> OK.
Specify Computer Name and Workgroup
Click ==> Start ==> Settings ==> Control Panel ==> System ==>
Network Identifi cation ==> Properties. Enter a computer name
and use a different name for each PC. The workgroup must be
same for each PC in the network. The workgroup name may not
be the same as the computer name. Afterwards click ==> OK. A
message appears stating that the changes only take effect after
a restart. Click ==> OK.
Also close the System Properties window with ==> OK. When
asked whether you want to restart the system, click Yes.
Share Folder, Drive and Printer:
In order to access the shared resources of a Windows 2000
computer, the appropriate user profi les have to be created.
User accounts can be managed in Control Panel/Users and
Passwords.
Right-click the folder, drive or printer. Click ==> Share. Specify
the share name and the permissions if necessary. A hand
symbol on the icon indicates a shared resource in Windows
Explorer.
Access to Shared Folders and Drives:
Click Network Neighborhood in Window Explorer or on the
Desktop. Now select the shared resources you want to access.
Set Up Shared Printer:
Click Start ==> Settings ==> Printers ==> New Printer ==> Next
==> Network Printer ==> Next ==> Next. Select the PC the
printer is connected to and then click the matching Printer ==>
Next. Specify whether you want the printer to be the standard
printer ==> Next ==> Finish. The installation of various Windows
versions may differ depending on the model and application.
