8.4 Purge gas cylinder refill

Multiple hazards. Only qualified personnel must conduct the tasks described in this section of the
document.
C A U T I O N
Personal injury hazard. Because of pressure buildup inside of the instrument, removable parts can
disengage with force when removed. Loosen and remove the parts slowly. Point the parts away from
people and wear the appropriate protective equipment during maintenance or service activities.
N O T I C E
Make sure to follow all of the safety procedures supplied by the storage gas supplier, and all of the applicable
regulations issued by local health and safety authorities for high pressured cylinders.
Use model 32824A refilling hose to refill the purge gas cylinder. The analyzer uses one of two types
of purge gas:
• N
2
purge gas for H
2
measurements
• CO
2
purge gas for N
2
or H
2
measurements

Gas inhalation hazard. Operate the instrument in a fume hood to prevent exposure to hazardous gas.
Fill the N
2
purge gas cylinder to a maximum of 200 bar from a master N
2
storage cylinder, using
fittings supplied with the analyzer.
Note: Do not refill the analyzer purge gas cylinder if the master N
2
storage cylinder pressure is below 100 bar.
When the master cylinder is below 100 bar, refill or replace the master cylinder.
8.4.2 CO
2
purge gas

Gas inhalation hazard. Operate the instrument in a fume hood to prevent exposure to hazardous gas.
Fill the CO
2
purge gas cylinder to a maximum of 57 bar (liquid phase at 20°C) from a master CO
2
storage cylinder equipped with a plunger tube, using the fittings supplied with the analyzer.

9.1 Troubleshooting - Instrument
If your analyzer is behaving strangely (failing to calibrate, giving inappropriate measurement values,
etc.) and you have attempted to rectify the problem by servicing the sensor (for instructions, see
on page 24) but to no avail, you may wish to use the Hach 3654
Troubleshooting
menu to make sure that the instrument is configured correctly for your application,
and is in good working order.
The instrument must be connected to your PC and placed in measurement mode to perform these
tests.
