Prepare and Square Building Site
PREPARE BUILDING SITE
A level site is required to accurately and safely construct building. Consult
the services of a qualified contractor to properly grade and prepare site.
Site should slope away from building for proper water drainage.
After site is prepared, mark locations of frame corners to square frame
position. Taking these steps
before
shelter assembly begins saves time and
ensures that structure is square and positioned as desired.
The following procedures are suggested methods. Their use depends on
shelter size, shelter use, footings (if applicable), and the method used to
anchor the shelter.
When in doubt, consult the services of a qualified contractor experienced
with the construction of similar structures.
Ground Posts
Ground posts can be set in concrete as described within this manual. Or,
anchor building frame as described in the MUST READ document.
SQUARE SITE: GENERAL STEPS
1. Identify a corner where a ground post will be set, drive a stake, and
string a line the building width. Stake in place. (Width of frame is
measured from center-to-center of ground posts.)
2. After placing first corner stake, string a line the frame width (center-to-
center of ground posts) and drive second corner stake.
3. String a line longer than the building 90° from the line between the first
and second stakes.
NOTE:
A transit can be used to ensure an accurate 90° angle, or the
3-4-5 rule can be used. Refer to diagram. Using multiples of 3-4-5 such
as 6-8-10 or 12-16-20 helps to maintain an accurate 90° angle.
4. After squaring frame position, measure length and drive the third corner
stake.
5. Repeat the same step to set last corner stake.
NOTE:
The distance measured diagonally between
corner stakes
must
be equal for building to be square.
SET GROUND POSTS IN CONCRETE
Sandy or loose soil requires setting ground posts in concrete. Review
the layout diagrams for additional details. Follow all local and regional
building codes during construction.
Enlist the services of a professional and competent contractor to
prepare site and set ground posts.
Failing to secure ground posts in concrete as required may result in
damage to frame, frame contents, and surrounding property and may
void warranty.
Shelter width is measured from ground post center to ground post center.
Length is also measured ground post center-to-center.
