Macintosh performance optimalization
When using the UC1 with Cubase / Nuendo you may
experience a sudden volume increase when the app is
started. This is caused by a hidden setting in Cubase/
Nuendo. To change this behavior, please open the
‘Studio Setup’ under the Studio menu of Cubase/
Nuendo, browse to ‘Grimm Audio UC1’, open the
Control Panel and then disable the ‘Set Device
Attenuation To 0 dB’ option.
Some general ‘good practice’ remarks to optimize Mac
OS for use as a DAW are: disable Time Machine, disable
Spotlight indexing, disable screen saver and disable
energy saver. Also, minimize the amount of open
windows and the use of other applications. Plus it never
hurts to have a lot of RAM installed.
Windows
Windows 10 offers native support of the UC1 via ‘USB
Audio Class 2’. However, clock selection is not available
via this default driver so we recommend to still install
the Grimm Audio Windows driver that you can find on
the UC1 page of the Grimm Audio website. Mark that
this Windows ‘Grimm Audio Control Panel’ is also
needed to perform updates of the UC1 firmware. On
the next page you see a few screenshots. Please read
the description in the Macintosh paragraphs, operation
on Windows is similar. Note that settings like buffer size
mainly depend on your computer system performance.
Disable “Set Device Attenuation to 0 dB” in Cubase / Nuendo.
