NOTE:
It may not be possible to accomplish this test on bottom-mounted antenna
installations.
(1) After the system has been in STBY or TEST for at least one minute, change the RADAR mode to
WX.
(2) Ensure that HOLD function is off.
(3) Check for target reflections of local weather (if any) by sequencing through each range position
while tilting the antenna upward above the horizon, using the TILT control.
(4) Select each of the nine range positions. Note that the corresponding range and range mark
intervals are annunciated briefly along the left edge of the display. Note that targets on display (if
any) shift their relative position.
(5) Attempt to find a range in which high-level (red) returns are displayed. Set RADAR mode to
WXA. Note that the red targets flash on and off in this mode.
(6) Change the RADAR mode to STBY.
2.6.6 Interference
Check
WARNING:
Whenever the radar mode is in any position except “OFF”, “STBY”, or
“TEST”, RF energy is radiated.
Do not allow personnel to stand within 15
feet of the antenna while it is radiating
. Tests involving the radiation of RF
energy must not be made in the vicinity of refueling operations. Use “TEST” or
“STBY” positions in such an environment.
(1) Operate the RDR-1700A Radar System on all functions and check that this does not affect other
electronic equipment in the aircraft.
(2) Operate the system on all functions and check that it is not affected by any of the functions of the
other electronic or electrical equipment in the aircraft.
(3) Upon successful completion of the foregoing post-installation tests, turn the system off and install
the radome for preflight checkout.
2.7 PREFLIGHT
CHECK
NOTE:
The preflight check assumes the system has successfully completed post-
installation check that the aircraft is pointed toward a non-reflective area, and
that fuel trucks or personnel are not close to the radar line-of-sight. Refer to
warning at beginning of Paragraph 2.6.
