PL5200 Planter
Pre-Delivery Instructions
This location needs to be:
level and free of obstructions and debris.
adequate overhead space to lift the planter off of the
trailer with an industrial lift or hoist.
adequate space to pull the tractor forward from
underneath the planter, without turns
adequate space all around to easily maneuver heavy
machinery on all sides of the planter and/or truck.
adequate space to attach a tractor to the front of the
planter.
adequate space to stage equipment and tools for
assembly and setup.
adequate space to stage components after unloading
from truck.
Unloading
Do not begin assembly without all workers and
those in close proximity understanding the plan for
assembling the planter. Each worker should
understand their role and responsibilities prior to
beginning to work.
Loose Components
Ensure as the work is completed, unloaded
components are set aside far enough away for
continued clearance for unloading remaining
components, assembling the planter, and moving or
maneuvering the truck, planter, and heavy
equipment.
1. Remove any loose components from the truck.
2. Remove any crated items that may be on the
truck.
Hitching to Planter
Load Rating
The industrial lift must have a rating for 30,000 lbs
(14,000 kg) or higher or significant damages to the
planter and lifting equipment, and serious injury
and even death can occur to any workers or
others in close proximity of the area can occur due
to lift failure, tipping, or rollover. Great Plains
recommends using a single industrial lift, and
does not recommend using a combination of
multiple, smaller lifting machines to complete
unloading and assembly.
Lift Failure Hazard
Do not lift on the wings. There is a significant risk of
hinge failure and lift collapse; either will result in
major planter and lift equipment damage, serious
injury, and even death.
Proper Equipment
Do not use an industrial lift without the proper 3-
point hitch equipment attachment. Do not attempt
to lift the planter center frame from the 3-point
hitch in any other manner other than described in
this manual. Failure to use proper equipment will
result in significant damages to the planter and
lifting equipment, and serious injury and even
death.
Collision Risk
Do not place the industrial lift, or any other
equipment, so close to the tractor trailer the
wheels of the tractor trailer will not have
sufficient clearance when pulling the trailer
forward from under the planter. Serious
damage can occur to the planter, tractor trailer,
and the industrial lift equipment, and serious
injury or even death can occur during a
collision between the planter, tractor trailer,
and/or industrial lift equipment.
1. Set the parking brake on the tractor trailer.
2. Ensure the industrial lift equipment is properly
functioning with smooth movements.
3. Set the industrial lift into position.
4. Release, remove, and stow any shipping straps,
chains, and shipping stands.
5. Securely attach the 3-point hitch attachment of
the industrial lift to the 3-point hitch points on the
planter. Please note the industrial lift must be
rated for 30,000 lbs (14,000 kg) or higher. See
“
” on page 91 for more
information.
6. If planter is equipped with hydraulic drive,
connect the yellow colored color hydraulic hoses.
7. Raise and store the two front parking stands. If
the planter is configured with a bulk hopper, raise
and store the rear parking stand, too. See
“
” on page 23 for more
information.
8. Slowly lift the planter off of the trailer bed.
9. Stop lifting the planter after about 12 inches or
high as necessary to create enough clearance for
the tractor trailer to be pulled straight out from
under the lifted planter.
10. From a distance, inspect the tractor trailer and
planter to determine proper clearance for the
tractor trailer to be pulled straight out from under
the lifted planter. If necessary, lift the planter
further up to create sufficient clearance to avoid
