PL5200 Planter
Preparation and Setup
Refer to the booklet attached to the bucket for recommended
usage. Do not exceed recommendations, as excess
amounts adversely affect accurate seed metering.
Speed Calibration
Calibrate the speed radar sensor the first time the
planter is operated in the field - with or without
planting. See the accompanying console manual for
this procedure.
Cross-check the console speed reading with the
tractor speedometer.
Speed Radar Sensor
When the planter lowered, it will be necessary to
ensure that the radar speed sensor is pointed at the
ground, at an angle approximately 35° below
horizontal. Refer to the speed radar sensor manual
for more information.
Parking Stands
The parking stands will provide some stability to the
planter when engaged however there is not enough
weight on parking stands to anchor the planter on a
slope. Always engage parking stands on even, level
ground. If the ground is soft, place a customer
provisioned thin piece of wood or plate on the ground
under each stand to increase contact area. Parking
stands should be engaged during parking, storage,
and while completing maintenance.
1. Remove the hairpin cotter at pin stand (1).
2. Support the stand at its grip handle (2).
3. Remove the pin (3).
4. Lower the stand until the rear pin tube (4) is
aligned with the lower holes of the stand
weldment.
5. Re-insert pin and secure with cotter pin (1).
6. Repeat for other parking stand.
Complete the steps in reverse order to pin up the
parking stands for field use or transportation.
Rear Parking Stand
PL5200 Planters configured with the bulk seed
hopper have a rear parking stand located
underneath the bulk seed hopper. The rear parking
stand operates in the same manner as the other
parking stands mounted on the toolbar.
Transport
Electrocution Hazard
Avoid overhead lines transporting. When
folded and lifted, the planter requires
clearance of at 15 feet (4.5 m), which is high
enough to contact low-hanging lines. Touching
the planter or tractor completes a circuit to
ground, and can result in serious injury or
death. At higher voltage, shock can occur
without direct contact.
Loss of Control Hazard
Do not exceed 20 mph (32 km/h) when transporting.
Use a tractor rated for the load. Towing the
planter at high speeds or with a vehicle that is
not heavy enough can lead to loss of vehicle
control resulting in serious injury or death.
The tractor must weigh at least 2/3 (67%) of the
planter plus any materials loaded. See “
on page 80.
Before transporting, follow and check these items:
Set the tractor 3-point hitch control for depth control
operation. If the 3-point hitch control is set for load
control, the auto load control response may
automatically adjust too high in some circumstances,
causing the wing locks to disengage on the road.
