Calibration
Chemical Hazard
Agricultural chemicals can be hazardous,
including treatments on seeds and
components of fertilizers. Improper use can
seriously injure persons, animals, plants,
soil, and property. Follow material supplier
recommendations.
The tested seed and field conditions used to create
the seed rate charts may be different from your seed
and field conditions. It is recommended to calibrate
your seed for accurate target population.
The calibration tray, collapsible bucket, and digital
scale, stored in the tool box on the tongue, will be
needed for calibration.
Perform calibration when:
Using the drill for the first time.
At the beginning of each season.
When changing material.
To prepare for calibration:
1. Park the drill on a solid, level surface.
2. Apply the parking brake and turn off the tractor
engine.
3. Unfold the drill and lower the openers.
Hydraulic Drive Calibration
To view a video of the hydraulic drive
calibration procedure, use your smart
phone or tablet to scan, or click the QR
code at the left. Use an appropriate
App to begin viewing.
To perform the calibration procedure from this
manual, use the following instructions.
1. Use the rate charts to set up the drill for calibration:
a. Find the rate chart for your material.
b. Make sure you have the correct seed wheels
in the feed cups.
c. Find your row spacing.
d. Open the slide gates to the correct position
on the feed cups you will be using for
calibration.
e. On the drill box you will be calibrating, set the
drive configuration to that shown in the rate
chart.
f. Move the feed cup flap handle on the drill box
to the correct position.
2. With the seed hoses connected, remove the feed
cup funnels on the feed cups you are using for
calibration. See “
3. Move the funnels, with seed hoses attached, to
the side and out of the way.
4. Place several pounds of product over the feed
cups you are using for calibration.
5. Tap on
from the machine tools menu to go
to metering settings.
Each box compartment has its own virtual meter that
controls all hydraulic motors across the machine.
Each section’s hydraulic motor can be considered a
submeter.
The
Target Rate
, which you enter before calibrating,
applies to the whole machine.
The
Calibration Factor
value found by running a
calibration test, applies to the whole machine. Great
Plains recommends you perform a calibration for
each crop.
Calibration Factor
can be manually entered
based on previous calibrations or based on
calibration starting points from seed rate
charts.
6. Select the meter icon (1) to enter the submeter
screens. Select
for the front box compartment
meter,
for the rear box compartment meter.
