Understanding Hydraulic Drive Rate
Charts
See your drill operator manual to set up drive
configuration, feed cups, and calibration.
The rate charts are in alphabetical order by material
name (1). The scientific name (2) of each seed is
listed under the material name.
The rate range values are in pounds/acre (3).
If your material is not listed, find one with similar size,
shape, and density.
To use a rate chart:
1. Find your rate chart.
2. Make sure you have the proper seed wheels (4)
in the feed cups.
3. Find your row spacing (5).
4. Locate the desired rate in the table row for your
row spacing.
5. Set the gear configuration (6), Low Rate or High
Rate.
6. Open the slide gate to the correct position (7).
7. Move the feed cup flap handle to the correct
position (8).
8. The Calibration Factor will be entered into the
console. Each chart includes a Calibration Factor
for all drill sizes.
9. Calibrate and adjust the settings as needed.
Before Getting Started
Seed Flap Adjustments
When tightening seed box flaps, start at
recommended setting. If at a 2 or greater, tighten flap
by 1/2 increments for best consistency. If seeeds are
placed under too much pressure and popping out of
the cup or damaged at the tighter setting, then return
to the recommended setting. Every time the flap is
adjusted, go down past desired setting and then
slowly pull up to the desired setting.
Material Calibration
While calibration is always a good idea before each
planting session, Great Plains recommends
calibrating your machine at least at the beginning of
each planting season OR when changing to a
different type of seed. Failing to calibrate for a new
season or seed will greatly affect the accuracy of
rates and lead to serious complications with crop
growth and harvest.
Minor variations in results can occur during
calibration. To ensure best accuracy, run the
calibration test at least three times. If results
are far apart and trending either higher or
lower after each test, continue calibrating
until results stabilize.
When calibrating, it is recommended that you collect
product for 3-5 minutes. For higher rates or larger
seeds, you should collect at least five pounds of
product.
Range Settings
Avoid ranges that are at the
absolute high and low ends of
ranges
(0-10
or
90-100).
Whenever possible, select the low
range.
