35. You can now apply the decals to the model. We recommend that you start by applying the raven to the
fuselage. First cut out the decal. The gold-coloured stripe at the underside of the raven is interrupted and
offset at the underside; slit the gold stripe at this point as far as the inner corner (the width of the gold
stripe). The end of the slit coincides with the edge of the fuselage wing fairing; apply the decal starting at
this point, pressing it down lightly, first over the top of the wing fairing, then forward, and then towards the
tail. The wings of the raven can now be positioned to line up with the fuselage decal, and stuck down
carefully to the wings. The large ORACLE placard on the underside is best applied in separate stages: first
OR, then A, then C, and finally LE.
36. The model can now be test-flown, and the correct downthrust and sidethrust set. When you are satisfied,
cut out the spinner and glue it permanently to the propeller.
Model set-up
•
Set the control surface travels as stated in the table below. For the first few flights we suggest that you limit
the travels to about 60% of the stated values, ideally using Dual Rates.
Elevator
45 mm up and down
Rudder
50 mm right and left
Ailerons
45 mm up and down
•
Centre of Gravity: approximately 90 mm from the root leading edge of the wing.
•
First flight: wait for a day with as little breeze as possible (flat calm is ideal). Charge up the batteries,
check the model’s working systems one by one, and carry out a range check. You should now be ready for
the first flight. We suggest that you ask an experienced assistant to give the model a gentle hand-launch.
The motor has plenty of power, so a strong launch is not required. After trimming the model out and getting
to know its basic flying characteristics, you can start exploring its aerobatic capability.
