Control Panel Module Installation
Tray Internal Cabling
Each Kayenne XL Control Panel tray is equipped with a distribution board
located at the bottom of the tray. Each Control Panel module connects to a
module port on this distribution board inside the tray, using a CAT 6
(shielded) style cable. It is very important to understand this port is NOT
used for Ethernet communications. These ports supply power as well as
communications and control signals to the modules.
CAUTION
Do not plug any Ethernet device into a Kayenne XL Control Panel Tray’s
internal module port. The Ethernet device will be damaged due to the power
transmitted by that port.
When connecting these internal cables, be sure any excess cable is routed
away from the upper edges of the tray, to prevent pinching the cables when
the modules are inserted. Metal clips in the bottom of the tray are available
for this purpose.
Note
Kayenne XL Module cables inside the tray can be hot swapped safely. How-
ever, the multi-pin cables outside the tray that connect to the PCU cannot be
connected or disconnected while the PCU is powered up.
Module Insertion and Removal
Kayenne XL Control Panel modules are held in place in the trays with
spring metal. Once the internal cables are connected and routed properly,
the module is inserted by angling the front of the module into place in the
front of the tray, and then lowering the rear of the module and pushing
until it clicks into place. See details below.
CAUTION
Do not push on display menus or buttons to seat a module, as these items
could crack. Instead, push on the top edge of the gray surface above the
buttons or displays to seat the modules.
Modules are removed by inserting a plastic card into the top to unseat the
springs. Smaller modules have two springs, larger modules have three or
more. Notches in the modules identify where the springs are located.
