6  TRANSPORTING THE GENDRON MRI TRANSPORT WHEELCHAIR

WARNING: The transport wheelchair does not offer seating or occupant restraint

equivalent to the seat provided in a motor vehicle! To increase your safety while traveling

in a motor vehicle, always transfer to the vehicle seat and use the restraint provided by the

vehicle manufacturer.

WARNING: When folding or unfolding the transport wheelchair, do not place your fingers or

hands under the seat rail.

FOLDING THE TRANSPORT WHEELCHAIR (ALL MODELS)

The Gendron transport wheelchair easily be transported by folding the wheelchair: follow the
instructions in

FOLDING THE WHEELCHAIR

 on page 8.

TRANSPORTING THE TRANSPORT WHEELCHAIR

WARNING: Do not lift the transport wheelchair by the arms, footrests, or any other

detachable parts.

When transporting the transport wheelchair in a motor vehicle, do not place the transport
wheelchair where it will interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle or endanger the driver
or passengers. The front seat IS NOT a good location to store a wheelchair during transport — it
can be dislodged and become a serious hazard to the driver. Always take precautions to avoid
personal injury when loading or lifting a wheelchair into or out of a vehicle.

Rear Seat:

Move the front seat as far forward as possible. After

folding the transport wheelchair, face it toward the open car door.
Tilt the transport wheelchair backward as shown at right and
roll it forward on the rear wheels. Push the transport wheelchair
forward so the casters enter the car. Tilt the transport wheelchair
away from the back of the front seat, then lower the casters to the
floorboard. Slowly lift-roll the transport wheelchair into the car.

WARNING: Ensure the transport wheelchair is stable and will

not shift while the car is in motion.

WARNING: Ensure the transport wheelchair does not block the driver’s field of vision.

Trunk:

After folding the transport wheelchair, engage the wheel locks. Grasp the front of the frame

and rear of the wheels and lift the transport wheelchair carefully, using good body mechanics to
avoid injury, and place it in the trunk.

WARNING: DO NOT put any articles on top of the transport wheelchair.

Close the trunk lid slowly.

REASSEMBLY: UNFOLDING THE TRANSPORT WHEELCHAIR

Follow the instructions in

UNFOLDING THE WHEELCHAIR

 on page 8.

WARNING: Ensure transport wheelchair is fully open, seat rails are fully seated, and arms

and footrests are locked in place before occupying or operating.
