Safety instructions

General safety instructions

The instructions given in this chapter must be followed in order to guarantee safe and reliable operation.

The authorisation and the specifications contained within it must be adhered to.

The national security regulations and regulations for accident prevention must be adhered to.

The installation may only be carried out by specialists. These persons must be familiar with the
particularities of installations prone to explosion.

Incorrect or unauthorised use as well as failure to adhere to the instructions within this instruction manual
void the guarantee.

Please only use the device for its authorised purpose.

Conversions of and changes to the device are not permitted.

The case may be opened solely by the GeCma Components GmbH company.

Installation

The national installation and erection regulations should be adhered to.

The generally recognised rules of engineering should be adhered to

All equipment should be connected and operated properly and correctly, in accordance with the
applicable norms, guidelines and installation instructions.

The case should be earthed using the earthing device. This earthing must take place with a lead of at least
4mm² cross-section.

The device may only be connected with the power off.

The erection of the intrinsically safe lead carrier with power supply and signal leads must be carried out in such a
way that there is no possibility of any error between the individual circuits: see IEC 60079-14, 12.2.2.8.

If the device is to be exchanged while being used in a dusty atmosphere, the device or the case in which
the device is installed must first have its power switched off and if necessary be allowed to cool according
to regulations. Before you open the device or case, and while the device or case is open, the
environment of the device or case must be kept dust-free as far as possible so that no dust can find its
way into the inside of the case. When installing the new components care should be taken that all the
seals are in a flawless condition and that they form a proper seal everywhere.

Before you commission the device, make sure that  the device has been installed according to
regulations and that the cabling is not damaged.

If the device has not been supplied with an intrinsically safe supply, it loses its authorisation and may not
be operated as an intrinsically safe device. If the device has been operated intrinsically safely with a low
level of protection (e.g. ib), it may not later be operated in applications for a low protection level (e.g. ia).

Operation

The device may only be operated in an undamaged and clean state.

In the case of damage of any kind which could adversely affect the IP protection (e.g. tears, holes or

broken components), the device must be taken out of operation immediately. In order for it to be
commissioned again, the faulty components must first be replaced.

In the case of this device being damaged it may no longer be touched, as there is a danger of injury.

In the case of non-observance and violation of these regulations the explosion protection specified
cannot be guaranteed, and no claims can be made on the guarantee!

Deviations require the written permission of the GeCma Components GmbH company.
