Appendix C — Configuring the RS-232
Interface
Introduction
This appendix contains information you will need to establish
RS-232 connections to the Humilab (and Electronics Module).
Cables, communication software, and protocol information is
provided. Note that the Humilab does not use the alarm function
described below.
Establishing RS-232 communications
The easiest method of establishing RS-232 communications is to
use the Microsoft Windows Terminal program.
Follow the steps below:
1. Click your mouse on the Terminal icon.
2. Select the Settings Menu.
3. Select Communications.
A window is displayed for you to enter various communica-
tions parameters.
4. Select the following:
Baud rate: 1200 baud
Data bits: 8
Start bits: 1
Parity: none
Hardware control: none
COM Port: COM1or COM2 as required
5. Click on OK.
Communications should now be established and you will see fresh
data on the screen, frequently updated. Percent R.H., Dew Point,
and Temperature are provided and with more resolution than when
displayed on the Humilab’s front panel.
