Starting a Local
Console Session
(Recommended for
first-time log-in)
1. Connect a serial communications cable between the PC and the
unit’s
COM1
port. If necessary, a cable may be constructed for this
purpose as shown in
Figure 3-5
.

2. Launch a terminal emulation program such as HyperTerminal and
configure the program with the following settings:
• 115,200 bps data rate
• 8 data bits, no parity
• One stop bit, and no flow-control
• Use ANSI or VT100 emulation.
TIP:
The HyperTerminal communications program can be accessed on
most PCs by selecting this menu sequence:
Start>>Programs>>Accesso-
ries>>Communications>>HyperTerminal
.
NOTE:
If the unit is powered-up or rebooted while connected to a
terminal, you will see a series of pages of text information
relating to the booting of the unit’s processor. Wait for the
log-in screen before proceeding.
3. Press the
