9–14 seconds (this includes pre-infusion time)
with the consistency of warm dripping honey.
Tip:
As a default, the extraction is time-control-
led (“SEc”). The extraction duration is set
to 20 seconds for 1 cup and 30 seconds
for 2 cups. However, you may change the-
se settings. For selecting volume-controlled
extraction see: ›Advanced Settings‹. For
selecting the extraction duration or volume
see: ›Programmable Functions‹.
A great espresso is about achieving the per-
fect balance between sweetness, acidity, and
bitterness.
• If the espresso starts to flow before 9
seconds, the grind is too coarse. This is an
UNDER EXTRACTED shot. Adjust the grind
size slightly finer. See: ›Selecting the Grind
Size‹.
• If the espresso starts to drip or flow after
14 seconds, then the grind is too fine. This is
an OVER EXTRACTED shot. Adjust the grind
size slightly coarser.
The flavour of your coffee will depend on
many factors, such as
the type of coffee beans, and degree of roast,
freshness,
grind size of the grind.
Experiment by adjusting these factors just one
at a time to achieve the taste of your prefe-
rence. See: ›Tips for Best Results‹.
Note:
If the Espresso Machine is run continuously
for 30 minutes, allow the Espresso Machi-
ne to cool for 5 minutes before each use.
AFTER THE SHOT
1. After the shot, first remove your filled cup
or glass and place it on the warming
plate.
CAUTION:
Shortly after brewing, the porta-
filter is hot. Only touch the portafilter by the
handle to avoid burns.
2. Then remove the portafilter by turning the
portafilter handle to the INSERT position.
3. Hit the portafilter on the rod of the mini
grinds bin to make the grinds fall into the
bin.
Note:
It is best to empty and clean the mini grinds
bin at least every day.
