Problem
Reason
The Solution
You cannot start the
desired program.
The appliance is not live. Check, whether the power outlet is live.
The kettle is not placed on
the power base correctly.
“E3” is displayed.
Fill the kettle with at least 0.5 litres of water and place
the kettle on the power base. If required, turn the kettle
on the power base. Then try again.
The set temperature is
lower than or equal to the
current water temperature
within the kettle. “E1” is
displayed.
The set temperature must be higher than the current tem-
perature within the kettle to start a program. Wait until
the kettle cooled down sufficiently, select a somewhat
higher temperature, or carefully and slowly pour some
cold water into the centre of the kettle (see: ‘Operation
/ Adding Water during Operation’).
The boil dry protection has
been triggered. “E2” is
shown on the display.
Unplug the appliance, empty the kettle, and leave the
kettle cool down for at least 30 minutes (see: ‘Properties
of Your New Tea Maker / Boil Dry Protection’). There-
after, fill the kettle with at least 0.5 litres (500ml) of
cold water and try again.
Water accumulates under
the power base or runs
down on the exterior of
the kettle.
Immediately unplug
the appliance and wipe
dry the appliance com-
pletely.
There is too much water
in the kettle. At the spout,
the water is boiling out of
the kettle.
Leave the appliance dry naturally for at least 1 day.
Always observe the maximum filling level when filling
(see: ‘Technical Specifications’).
You spilled some water
during filling or moving
the kettle.
Ensure not to spill water on the exterior of the kettle duri-
ng filling. Always ensure to hold the kettle level, when
it is filled.
The kettle is not closed
correctly during operation.
Boiling water is splashing.
Always ensure to close the kettle correctly via the lid ring
and filter system or lid, before starting a program.
The kettle is leaking.
Check the kettle for leakage. For this, place the filled
kettle on a dry surface for some hours. Do not use the
appliance, when the kettle is leaking. If required, contact
your vendor.
The water has an
unpleasant taste.
This may happen on new
appliances or appliances
that are used only rarely.
Prepare the appliance for usage as described in chapter
‘Before First Use’. If the problem persists, fill the kettle
with 1500ml of water and add two teaspoons of baking
soda. Select 100°C and press the WATER button. Leave
the appliance operate until automatic shut-off (see: ‘Ope-
ration / Heating Clear Water’). Then discard the water
and clean the kettle thoroughly.
Problem
Reason
The Solution
You left the water or tea
in the kettle for too long.
Always empty the kettle completely after usage and,
in any case, rinse the kettle thoroughly with clear tap
water, before standing the kettle aside. However, after
preparing tea, it is better to clean the kettle thoroughly
after each usage (see: ‘Care and Cleaning’).
Excessive deposits of lime
in the kettle.
Descale the kettle in time (see: ‘Care and Cleaning /
Descaling the Kettle’). Excessive deposits of lime could
even damage the kettle.
The interior of the kettle
is coated with residues
of tea, causing a unusual
taste, when heating clear
water.
At least, after using the appliance for making tea, you
should clean the kettle and lid set (see: ‘Care and Clea-
ning’). This is required in any case, if you wish to heat
clear water for other beverages.
You started the hot water
program via the WATER
button, but the time dura-
tion until boiling is unusual
long, or the water is not
boiling at all.
The water temperature
has been set below
95-100°C (203-212°F).
Before starting operation, ensure that the desired tem-
perature is shown on the display. If required, adjust the
temperature accordingly (see: ‘Operation / Selecting or
Setting Up a Program’).
The appliance switched to
keep warm already, the
keep warm indicator is
illuminated.
The maximum keep warm temperature is limited to
90°C. This is normal. If boiling water is required, cancel
the running program and start it again with the tempera-
ture set to 100°C (212°F).
Excessive amounts of lime
cover the heating plate.
Descale the kettle in time (see: ‘Care and Cleaning /
Descaling the Kettle’). Excessive deposits of lime could
damage the kettle.
Malfunction occurred.
Cancel the running program and unplug the appliance. Wait
for 15 minutes. Then try again. If the problem persist, contact
the GASTROBACK® Customer Care Center by phone: +49
