Conservation
charging
WARNING!
Danger if battery is not monitored during conservation charging.
This can result in serious injury and damage to property due to short circuits, arcs and
oxyhydrogen explosions.
▶
Carry out a visual inspection at least once a week or as often as specified by the
battery manufacturer to ensure that the acid level in the battery is at the Max. mark.
▶
If any of the following occur, do not start the device (or stop immediately if already in
use) and have the battery checked by an authorised workshop:
uneven acid levels and/or high water consumption in individual cells,
overheating of the battery above 55 °C (131 °F).
The charger automatically switches to conservation charging once the battery is fully
charged. The fully charged battery symbol (4 bars) is constantly displayed during conser-
vation charging.
This allows the charger to be continuously connected to the battery without overcharging
the battery and without any additional energy costs.
Charging a bat-
tery in a state of
deep discharge
If there is nothing on the charger display during test mode, the battery is in a state of
deep discharge. The charger recharges batteries that are in a state of deep discharge
using gentle pulses over a long period. Disconnect battery from vehicle power supply
and consumers before charging.
NOTE!
Danger due to a battery being connected to the vehicle power supply too soon.
This can result in vehicle power supply malfunctions.
▶
Only reconnect the battery to the vehicle power supply when:
▶
The battery has been charging for at least one hour.
▶
The battery is at least 50% charged (2 bars).
Trickle charging
(Acctiva Easy
chargers only)
With trickle charging, consumer loads (e.g. car radio) may be used during the charging
process. Note that:
-
the power used over a long period is lower than the charging current
-
the charging period is longer and may therefore trigger a safety cut-out
Back-up mode
(Acctiva Easy
devices only)
The charger powers the vehicle electronics while the battery is being changed. Any
saved data (e.g. car radio code, seat settings, etc.) are retained.
To operate the charger in back-up mode, proceed as follows:
1
Switch off engine and ignition, switch off all consumers
2
Switch on an interior lamp (approx. 2-15 W)
3
Set the selector switch to the correct position
4
Connect charging lead to the correct vehicle pole terminals
5
Connect charger to grid
