Gas discharge lamps are designed to emit broadband radiation, the spectrum of which exhibits features
characteristic of the noble gas used: e.g. Xenon. Flash tubes are used, with appropriate filtering, to
provide intense IR light to excite Anti-Stokes fluorescence.
