Driving hints
RUNNING-IN
Tyres
WARNING
New tyres need to be run-in for
approximately 500 kilometres.
During this time, you may experience
different driving characteristics.
Brakes
WARNING
Avoid heavy use of the brakes
and clutch if possible for the first
150 kilometres in town and for the first
1,500 kilometres on motorways.
Engine
CAUTION
Avoid driving too fast during the
first 1,500 kilometres. Vary your
speed frequently and change up through
the gears early. Do not labour the engine.
REDUCED ENGINE
PERFORMANCE
Your vehicle can be driven briefly if the
engine overheats, without damage to
the engine. The engine will continue to
operate with limited power. The distance
you can travel depends on ambient
temperature, vehicle load, and terrain.
If the needle moves to the upper limit
position, the engine is overheating. See
Gauges
(page 48).
If the temperature continues to rise, the
fuel supply to the engine will be reduced.
The air conditioning will also be turned off
and the engine cooling fan will operate.
CAUTION
Continued operation will increase
the engine temperature, and
cause the engine to shut down
completely.
Stop your vehicle as soon as
•
possible.
Immediately turn off the engine to
•
prevent severe engine damage.
Wait for the engine to cool down.
•
Check the coolant level. See
•
Engine coolant check
(page
108).
Have the vehicle checked by an
•
expert immediately.
DRIVING OFF ROAD
Ford encourages you to help preserve
our national forest and other public and
private lands by “treading lightly”.
Note:
After off-road driving, clear off
any debris, such as mud or grass, on the
radiator or other vehicle parts and check
for damage.
WARNING
Raise the seatback and adjust the
seat to a position where you have
good control of the steering wheel and
pedals even when vehicle bounces and
rocks.
Always hold the steering wheel’s
grip area and place the thumbs on
the outside of the steering wheel.
After driving through water, dry
the brakes by driving slowly and
applying the brakes lightly until brake
performance is normal.
