LESSON 3: DIAGNOSTICS
Output State Control (OSC) Tests
The output state control tests are helpful diagnostic tests. They allow you to send PCM output commands to
specific valves. Two particularly helpful tests in diagnosing the EGR system are the EGR duty cycle and the VGT
duty cycle.
•
EGR duty cycle (EGRDC)
– Full open to 100% KOEO
– Limited to 45% maximum KOER
•
VGT duty cycle (VGTDC)
– Limited to 85% maximum KOER
While running OSC tests, you may find the following additional tests helpful:
•
All injectors
– Injectors can be disabled one at a time
– Monitoring mass fuel desired during the test will show cylinder contribution
•
Fuel pump (FP)
– Allows fuel pump to be turned ON/OFF
•
Revolutions per minute (RPM)
– Can be set between zero and 1,200
•
Injector pressure regulator (IPR)
– RPM may have to be raised in order to keep the engine from stalling during this test.
– Allows IPR to be opened or closed to monitor change in the ICP.
