13.3 Agricultural livestock transport up to 65 km
Farmers who transport animals across a distance of up to 65 km from the point of departure to the final
destination require
neither
an operator's permit
nor
a certificate of competence.
Farmers who transport their own animals with their own vehicles across distances in excess of 50 km,
must keep a "transport log book" documenting the following:
1. a) Date and time of transfer
b) Time when loading commenced
c) Departure time
2. Name and address of the previous livestock owner
3. For cattle: the ear tag number; for pigs: the quantity, approximate age, marking; for sheep and goats:
the quantity and marking
4. Date and time of handover
5. Destination, name and address of the receiver
6. No. of the health certificate, if applicable
7. Expected duration of the planned transport
8. Number plate of the livestock transport vehicles/trailers employed
Farmers transporting their own animals to a slaughterhouse in their own vehicles
do not
have to keep a
transport log book. However, a transport document
must
be completed in the case of transports
exceeding 50 km.
This document must contain the following:
1. Origin and owner of the animals
2. Place of departure
3. Date and time when transport commenced
4. Destination
5. Expected transport duration
Transport papers or transport log books must be completed before
departure and carried in the vehicle. The log books are commercially
available. Supplementary "producer's declarations" or delivery notes may
be required for commercial livestock transport.
13.4 Transport duration
As a rule, a
transport duration of 8 hours must not be exceeded
.
If the animals are to be transported for longer than 8 hours, the transport vehicles must meet additional
requirements and an additional permit for "extended transports" must be issued by the veterinary office.
In this case, the operator also requires an extended authorisation (type 2) from the veterinary office. In
this context, it is important to note that the transport time starts when the first animal is loaded onto the
livestock transport vehicle and ends when the vehicle is completely unloaded.
