6.2.3 Planer tables for "lipping" planing
The planer configured for "lipping" is equipped with two planing tables (ref. C and D in Figure
14) that, in addition to the sliding of the wood piece, also operate as guards that, similarly to
the "bridge" guard, have the important function of preventing splinters or fragments of pieces
that may come loose, from being thrown into the operator's face, but above all are to prevent
the operator from coming into direct contact with the rotating cutting tool (in particular with
the lower part).
Figure 14 – “Lipping” planer tables.
As mentioned earlier, the planing tables are "foldable" and can be opened to switch from the
"thickness" planing configuration. The output table (ref. C) is constructed in such a way that
it should always be opened first, and is equipped with a safety micro-switch that prevents the
machine from starting and the blade shaft with the table open, until the shaft protection
guard has been overturned and engaged into a safe position.
This is an effective protection system for the operator to prevent the of the machine with the
tool "uncovered".
Cutting of hands and/or fingers
To switch from the "thickness" to "lipping" configuration, it is ALWAYS necessary to first
lower the input table and then the output table (the latter is equipped with an
interlocking micro-switch).
IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to lower the output table first and start the machine. In
this situation, the blade shaft is rotating and is uncovered on the input side and it is
possible for accidents to occur with damage and serious injuries.
