Evacuate the air using the vac
u
um pump and continue
moulding the
splint
around the patient’s body as more air
is
removed and as the
splint
becomes more rigid. Tighten
the
restraint straps further as the vac
splint
becomes
stiffer
to give better moulding around the patient. Check that
there
is no additional pressure to the top of head or under the
feet.
Check that the unit is stable, give good immobilization
and
is comfortable for the patient.

4.1 Use of the Rescue Lite in
combination with Basket stretcher
The Rescue Lite can be used as a soft Stretcher/Transfer
Mattress, when the air is not removed from the unit.

Ensure that the splint valve is opened to allow air top flow
into the splint.

Place the patient on the full body splint, fold the side
sections of the splint over patient and use the patient
restraints to secure the patient on the splint

5.
Cleaning and Disinfecting
After each use the vac
splint
should be wiped with a
moist cloth and then dried. If dirty the
splint
should be
washed with soapy water and rinsed with clean water. Allow
the splint to dry completely before storage or usage.
If the mattress needs disinfecting first clean the
splint
carefully and let it dry. Wipe the complete mattress with
a solution containing 70% alcohol or most common
disinfectant can be used e.g. the disinfectant e.g. called
LYSETOL AF.

Maintenance and Repair
At frequent regular intervals the splint, valve and pump
must be checked for any visible damage.
At the same time the splint must be tested for for function
and the suction operation of the suction pump must be
checked according to Section 7.
Leaks should be checked for by visual inspection or by
slightly filling of the mattress with air, covering it with
soapy water all over the surfaces and the welds, then watch
for air bubbles that may appear, which will indicate a leak.
When filling the mattress with air to check for leaks, ensure
that the mattress is not filled so much such that it creates a
pressure within thesplint, which may then cause the mattress
edge weld to split.
If any leak is found on the
splint, first clean the area
around
the leak and allow it to dry.
Find a repair patch of a suitable size from the repair kit
and then spread the supplied glue all over the patch and all
around the area of the splint where the patch will be applied.
Wait for the glue to become “dust dry” (approx. 2-3 minutes)
and then place the patch on the area of glue and leakage.
Apply pressure to the whole area of the patch; making sure
good contact has been established in the whole area and that
any air bubbles are removed.
The repair will have full strength after 24 hours, but can be
used within a few minutes in case of emergency
Note: Patient restraint straps are detachable, washable and
replaceable, washing in laundry bag, see label at the foot
end restraint. If blood gets on the straps, soak in cold water
first before washing.
7.
Testing the Vacuum Splint and Pump
Straighten out the splint on the floor, c lose t he v alve by
turning it fully clockwise and connect the pump.
Evacuate the air until the splint becomes rigid and leave it
for about 2 hours. Check to ensure that the splint is still as
rigid. Any loss of rigidity may indicate a leak in the vacuum
splint or through the valve. Check both for leaks and correct
functioning of the valve cap.
See Section 6 Maintenance and Repair or check the valve
for leakage from the vacsplint.
If OK, try to insert a new valve and repeat the test again.
If the pump does not seem to be removing air from the
vacuum splint, check the pump function by removing it
from the vacuum splint, place a finger over the orifice at the
end of the pump tubing and pump a few times. A negative
