2.3.2 Battery
The CPC522 Module uses one 3.0 V lithium battery to power the real-time clock. Please, use
RENATA CR2032 or compatible models (see 4.4.3 Battery replacement). Operation of the module
without battery is possible. Without a battery the clock data may be inaccurate.
2.3.3 Devices on local SMBus
The CPC522 is equipped with SMBus (System Management Bus) that provides system monitoring
and configuration functions. The bus uses a 2-
wire I2C™ interface and has several serial devices
connected to it, an SPD EEPROM and a switchable bus segment with hardware monitors
(LM96163 Remote Diode Digital Temperature Sensor, AMC80A System Hardware Monitor,
INA230 Current, Voltage and Power Monitor). The segment with monitors can be software-
connected to the BMC. In this case the information of the hardware monitors is accessed via the
BMC serial port, access via SMBus will be blocked.

The temperature monitor controls the temperature of the memory chips. The temperature monitor
can provide information to the tools for software monitoring the current state of the system on
request, this ensures that the module operates in a safe temperature mode.
2.3.4 Non-volatile Memory
2.3.4.1 SSD module of M2 format
There is an XS2 connector with an
“M” key on the board to install an M2-type SSD (see Figure 1-
2). The M2 interface supports 3 x M2 drive form factors: 2240, 2260 and 2280. The drives can be
connected either via SATA III or PCI Express Gen3 x2 with a maximum throughput of up to
16Gbps. Switching between interface types is automatic. For mounting the M2 module, the
installation kit includes a screw to attach the module to the heatsink, and an optional rack for
mounting modules with the 2240 and 2260 form factors.
