The WEP (wireless encr yption) authentication system determines
settings for communication between wireless access points and
wireless cards. There are two types of authentication when WEP is
enabled: Shared Key and Open System.
The SkyLINE 11Mb Wireless PC Card uses the most common
setting by default, which is Shared Key Authentication. The
Wireless Preferences
window for the Macintosh makes it
possible to enable Open System Authentication as well as Shared
Key Authentication.
If you are using a SkyLINE 11Mb Wireless PC Card with an access
point that defaults to Open System Authentication (such as
Aironet), it is recommended that you reconfigure the access point
for Shared Key Authentication, leaving the SkyLINE card set to its
default.
If you cannot change the access point’s authentication
configuration, and you are connecting to the access point with a
Macintosh you can change the SkyLINE card’s setting using the
Wireless Preferences
panel.
