NOTE: We strongly suggest using outside air for all residential installations, especially for those that are energy ef-
ficient, air-tight homes.
Outside air supply must not be over 8' (2.4 m) long.
Outside air vents must be made with 2" (50mm) diameter or larger metal or aluminum duct with a metal screen attached to
the end to keep out rodents (P.V.C. or other materials may not be used).
the outside air inlet must not be above or within 12" (305mm) of the chimney termination, must have a rain cap or down-
turned elbow to prevent the water from entering and be located so that it will not become plugged by snow or other mate-
rial.
3.4 OUTSIDE AIR
Draft is the force which moves air from the appliance up through the chimney. The amount of draft in your chimney
depends on the length of the chimney, local geography, nearby obstructions and other forces.
Inadequate draft may cause back-puffing into the room and may cause plugging of the chimney. Too much draft may
cause an excessive temperature in the appliance, glowing red appliance parts or an uncontrollable burn which can all
lead to a chimney fire or a permanent damage to the appliance.
91.1A
All homes with a solid fuel burning appliance should have at least one fi re extinguisher in a central location,
known to all, at least one smoke detector and carbon monoxide (CO) detector in the room containing the
appliance. If the smoke detector sounds an alarm, correct the cause but do not de-activate or relocate the
smoke detector. If the carbon monoxide detector sounds an alarm, immediately vent the area, evacuate and
call your local fi re department.

3.6 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS / SMOkE DETECTORS & CARbON MONOXIDE DETECTORS
this appliance is low carbon monoxide (CO) emission. Use of the appliance in a manner inconsistent with the operating
instructions in this manual can increase the smoke and the carbon monoxide (CO) emissions considerably. we recommend
having monitors in areas that are expected to generate carbon monoxide (CO) (e.g., pellet fuel bulk storage areas). this appliance
is designed to have low carbon monoxide (CO) emissions.
