BATTERIES AND RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
SAFETY TIPS

-

Batteries/rechargeable batteries do not belong in the hands of children.

-

Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around; there is a risk they

could be swallowed by children or pets. If swallowed, consult a doctor imme-
diately.

-

Leaking, or damaged batteries/rechargeable batteries, in contact with the skin

can cause acid burns, therefore, use suitable protective gloves.

-

Batteries/rechargeable batteries must not be short-circuited, opened or thrown

into a fi re. There is a risk of explosion!

-

Do not recharge normal, non-rechargeable batteries, risk of explosion! Only

charge rechargeable batteries that are intended for this purpose; use suitable
rechargeable battery chargers.

-

Make sure that the polarity is correct when inserting the batteries/rechargeable

batteries (pay attention to the negative and positive terminals).

INSERTING/REPLACING THE BATTERY/
RECHARGEABLE BATTERY

Insert a Type Mignon/AA battery into the battery compartment on the back of the
case. The correct polarity is indicated on the battery compartment cover.

Once the battery is inserted, the hands run to the receiver position (12:00, 4:00 or
8:00) and the radio wall clock starts to search for the DCF signal (see section "DCF
Reception").

The battery needs changing when the clock stops.

(

A rechargeable battery may be used, but due to the lower voltage output
(rechargeable battery = 1.2V, standard battery = 1.5V) and the lower capacity,
the service life is shorter.

DCF RECEPTION

Directly after the battery is inserted, the clock makes a fi rst attempt to receive the
DCF signal. The hands of the clock run to the receiver position and automatically set
themselves to the current time after successfully receiving the DCF signal.

(

The recognition and interpretation of the DCF signal can take 2-5 minutes. Do
not move the clock during this time. Do not use any buttons.

Bad reception can be caused, for example, by metalized insulated glass, rein-
forced concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic
devices, or installation in cellars.

If after ten minutes the hands have not moved to the current time, change
the location of the clock and press the red RESET button above the battery
compartment.

This will start a new reception attempt.

The reception attempt for the daily automatic synchronisation with the DCF time is
done several times a day. One successful reception per day is suffi cient to keep the
deviation to less then 1 second.

The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted via a DCF
transmitter in Mainfl ingen (near Frankfurt). Its range
is up to 1500 km and, under ideal reception condi-
tions, even up to 2000 km.

Among other things, the DCF signal includes the pre-
cise time (theoretical deviation of 1 second in a mil-
lion years!) and the date.

This means there is no need for manual setting of
summer and winter time.

TO MAKE A DCF RECEPTION ATTEMPT

To perform a manual search for the DCF signal (e.g., if you have hung the clock in
a different location), press the red RESET button above the battery compartment.

This will start a new reception attempt. Then, as described above, wait about 2-5
minutes until the correct time is displayed.

INSTALLATION

Hang the wall clock on the wall with a nail or hook so it cannot fall down.

For interference-free DCF reception, the clock should not be hung close to other
electronic devices, cables, metal items, etc.
