Installation
The external sensor features a range of max. 80 m (in open area). Any walls or metal
structures located between the wall clock control and external sensor will reduce the
range.
When drilling screw holes or when tightening screws, make sure not to damage any
existing cables or pipes (including water pipes).
a) Inserting/changing the batteries
Install the batteries before first-time use or replace the batteries when the
battery symbol
appears on the LCD.
Wall clock
• Remove the battery compartment cover (5) from the back.
• Insert 3 pieces 1.5 V batteries type AA, observing correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the
battery compartment.
• Reinstall the cover.
Replace the batteries as soon as the readability of the LCD reduces considerably.
All information (e.g. date, time) are lost upon battery replacement.
External sensor
• Remove the battery compartment cover from the back.
• Insert 2 pieces 1.5 V batteries type AAA, observing correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside
the battery compartment.
• Reinstall the cover.
Replace the batteries as soon as the outdoor temperature is not shown on the LCD.
b) Positioning
Wall clock
•
Unfold the stand (11) and place the wall clock on a flat and stable surface.
• You may also install the wall clock on a wall using hanging hole (1) and screw
(not included in the delivery scope).
In order to guarantee proper DCF radio reception, the wall clock should not be
positioned next to other electronic devices, cables, metal parts, etc. Do not install
the wall clock too close to heat sources.
External sensor
•
Unfold the stand (14) and place the external sensor on a flat and stable surface.
• You may also install the external sensor on a wall using hanging hole (16) and screw
(not included in the delivery scope).
Install the external sensor in an area that is shadowed the whole day, e.g. on a wall
facing north. Direct sunlight and heat radiated from objects falsifies the temperature
measurement.
Sensor search mode
• Once the batteries have been inserted, the wall clock starts searching for the wireless signal
of the external sensor automatically. The symbol
flashes on the LCD while searching.
• The external sensor transmits a signal every 32 seconds. Once the signal of the external
sensor has been received, the LCD shows the outdoor temperature.
• The search will take a total of approx. 3 minutes. After 3 minutes the symbol
disappears and
“
– – . –
” is shown on the LCD.
• If the signal has been lost and therefore no reading is displayed, press and hold the
RESET
button (13) on the external sensor for approx. 3 seconds. The symbol
flashes and the
wall clock starts searching for the wireless signal of the external sensor again. Alternatively
use the
RF SEARCH
button (3) on the wall clock.
Receiving DCF radio signal
• After the signal from the external sensor has been received, the wall clock will automatically
search for the DCF radio signal.
This will be indicated by the flashing
radio reception
symbol (B) on the LCD.
• This synchronization procedure usually takes about 10 minutes. Once the DCF signal has
been decoded, the clock will display the accurate time. After successful reception, the LCD
will permanently show the radio reception symbol . The number of displayed radio waves
indicates the reception quality. In case of unsuccessful reception, the LCD will not show any
symbol.
Do not move the wall clock and do not press any button or switch during that search
procedure.
Bad DCF reception is likely in case of metallized, insulated glass windows,
reinforced-concrete structures, coated special wallpapers, in the proximity of
electronic devices, or in basements.
Due to atmospheric disturbances, the radio signal might not be received instantly
in some situations. Let the radio wall clock operate over night, since reception is
better during nighttime.
If the wall clock does not display the time after approx. 10 minutes, change the
position of the unit and manually restart the DCF reception procedure (see chapter
“Manual DCF reception”).
Every day at 3 a.m. the wall clock will automatically synchronize the DCF time. That is enough
to keep any time deviation below 1 second per day. If the reception fail, scanning stops
( symbol disappears) and it is repeated again at 4.00 a.m., 5.00 a.m. and 6.00 am.
The DCF signal is transmitted from a station located in
Mainflingen (near Frankfurt am Main). Its range is
1500 km, under ideal reception conditions even up to
2000 km. The DCF signal contains, amongst others, the
exact clock time (theoretical time deviation of one
second in one million years!), the date, and the
weekday. Inconvenient manual setting of daylight
saving time and wintertime is not required.
Manual DCF reception
• Press and hold the button (7) for 3 seconds to cancel the manual reception procedure.
• Again press and hold the button for 3 seconds to start the manual reception procedure.
Settings
• Settings cannot be changed when
is flashing and unit is in DCF radio signal scanning
mode.
• If no button is pressed for approx. 15 seconds, the setting procedure will be cancelled.
The LCD will show the current time.
• Press and hold the
+
(8) or
–
(7) button to adjust given values (e.g. time or date) at
accelerated speed.
a) Manually setting the date and time
Manually setting the clock time and calendar is only required, if the wall clock is
used outside of the DCF reception area, if you wish to use another time zone, or if
the DCF reception is impaired due to ambient conditions. A successful DCF
reception will override the manual settings for date and time.
• Press and hold the
MODE/SET
button (10) until the hour starts flashing on the LCD.
• Use the
+
or
-
button to adjust settings and press the
MODE/SET
button to confirm each
setting. The setting sequence is as follows:
