7. Trouble shooting
Insufficient magnetic force - Bottom of magnet not clean and/or dry
- Bottom of magnet not suitable for workpiece
- Work piece is not bare metal
- Work piece is not clean or flat
- Work piece too thin
- Defective magnet
Motor starts running with switch
in OFF position when air supply is
switched ON - Defective ON / OFF switch or valve
Motor does not start with switch
in ON position - Damaged or defective connectors or air hose
- Defective ON / OFF switch or valve
- Defective gearbox casing
Motor suddenly stops - Components loose or missing, causing vibration
- Machine shifting on workpiece
- Unstable cutter/arbor combination
- Dull cutter
- Cutter not suitable for workpiece
Motor running irregularly or too
slow - Insufficient or irregular air pressure
Motor makes loud or screeching
noise - Air pressure is too high
- Bearing(s) worn out
- Gear(s) worn out
- Insufficient grease in gear box
Motor running roughly and/or
seizing up - Bent arbor
- Shaft extending from the motor is bent
- Guide not mounted straight
- Dirt between arbor and guide
Motor making a rattling sound - Bearing(s) worn out
- Gear(s) worn out
- Insufficient grease in gear box
Annular cutters break quickly,
holes are bigger than the hole
cutter - Clearance in the guide
- Bent arbor
- Shaft extending from the motor is bent
- Bent pilot pin
Guiding takes a great deal of
effort - Guides are set too tight
- Guides or gear-rack are dry and need lubrication
- Guides or gear rack are dirty or damaged
- Capstan hub of feeding system is damaged
Rotation system free stroke too
