Lo Cut Filter
see High Pass Filter.
Mixdown
Process by which a multi-track recording is combined into e.g. one or two channels.
Mute (Mute Button)
To silence (Signal muting button).
Normal
Means to connect an output to an input via a breakable link, like in an insert circuit.
Pan
see Balance.
PCB
Printed Circuit Board.

Phantom Power
+48 V DC voltage for powering condenser mics.
Phase coherence
Degree to which L & R signal are synchronized.
Phase correlation
Degree of mono compatibility of L & R signal
Pot or potentiometer
A variable control which can be in rotary or cursor form (slider). Used for gain, frequency, tone control etc.
Q
Efficiency. For example, if a circuit is described as being High-Q, it means that it is a high efficiency
circuit.
Route
Signal path (routing matrix = series of switches for route selection).
Routing matrix
Series of switches for route selection.
Solo
Solo in place, stereo image retained.
Source
Signal source (sourcing matrix = series of switches for source selection.
Tape Return
Line level input designed to accept the playback of a tape recorder.
Track
Tape recorder 'channel slot' or part of the tape (but a copper conductor in PCB language).
Transient
A transitory (extreme) rise in signal level.
Wet signal
Mix signal with effects added.
