Practical handling
HipTurner is retained in its pillow, so that the nylon side is facing
away from the carer.
Position HipTurner pillow very close to the user's hip (Illustration
1) and feed the nylon piece in under the small of the user's
back. (Illustration 2). The carer on the opposite side grasps the
functional handles and pulls the nylon piece taut (Illustration 3)
and smooths it out under the user's body.
Attach the functional handles to the hoist and prepare the user
for turning (Illustration 4) (If possible, the user should grip the
guard rail and bend his/her legs).
Positioning
Use
When the hoist is raised, the user is turned onto the fixed pillow
and is therefore raised a couple of centimetres from the sheet,
so that the bedpan can be positioned centrally under the user's
rear (Illustration 5).
The hoist is then lowered and the user is now lying on the
bedpan. Raise the bed headboard while the user is using
the bedpan. Then lower the bed headboard and attach the
functional handles to the hoist.
Before lifting, one carer grasps the handle of the bedpan so that
it doesn’t tip over when the hoist is raised.
The user is turned again on HipTurner’s fixed pillow and the bedpan
can now be removed.
While the user is still in the side position, lower body hygiene
can be performed.
Then lower the hoist and feed the nylon piece under the small
of the user's back and remove.
