Adjusting the mobility of the focusing arm
You can adjust the mobility of the focusing arm
so as to make it comfortable for you to operate,
but also, for instance, to prevent spontaneous
subsidence of the focusing arm owing to its own
weight. To do this, grasp one of the control knobs
for height adjustment
t
securely while you turn
the other either clockwise to make it more difficult
to move or anti-clockwise to adjust it to a lighter
setting.
Adjusting the optics
1. Position the object to be scrutinised by the microscope in the centre
of the microscopic slide disc. If required, use the two clips to keep the
object in place

2. Switch on the lighting units of the device using the On/Off switch
g
.
3. Set the zoom controller
e
to maximum magnification.
4. Set the dioptric adjuster
w
of both eyepieces to "0".
5. View the object to be scrutinised by the microscope through the right
eyepiece and optimise the image using the control knob for height
adjustment

6. Then set the zoom controller
e
to minimum magnification.
7. View the object to be scrutinised by the microscope through the right
eyepiece and optimise the image using the right dioptric adjuster
w
.
8. Repeat steps 3 and 5 until the right dioptric adjuster
w
reaches an
optimal setting and you see a sharp image.
9. Carry out steps 5 to 8 similarly for the left eyepiece.
10. Dispense object illumination using the brightness controllers of the
lighting units
d
(transmitted light unit) and
h
(incident light unit).
Turn the respective controller clockwise to increase light intensity.
Turn it in the opposite direction to reduce light intensity.
11. After use, switch off the lighting units of the device using the On/Off
switch
