Turning On the Phone

Press and hold down the NO key until you hear a click. If you have
inserted a SIM card in your phone, the display will prompt you to
enter your PIN code. If not, the display will read ‘SIM card not
present’.

Enter your PIN code. The digits appear as * in the display. If you
make a mistake while entering your PIN code erase the faulty digit by
pressing the CLR key.

Press YES.
If you have entered your PIN code correctly, you will be welcomed by
your phone. The phone will then search for a network.
When a network is found, the phone beeps three times. The indicator
light on top of the phone flashes green once every second.
The display looks like this:
You can now make and receive calls. This is called standby mode.
When you are not using the phone, the illumination of the display and
keypad is automatically turned off after 10 seconds. Pressing any key
will turn the illumination on again.
If the message Emergency calls only is displayed, you are within range
of a network but you are not allowed to use it. However, in an
emergency, you can call the international emergency number 112. See
chapter Making and Receiving Calls in GSM Mode, p. 7.
Connecting Your TH 688 to a DECT network
When you connect your TH 688 to a DECT network, the first row
displays the network’s identity. If the name and number exceed 10
characters, only the net name is shown.
When No Network is Displayed
If the message No network is displayed, there is no network within
range or the received signal is too weak. You have to move to obtain a
sufficiently strong signal.
The Display Language
The phone is normally, depending on SIM card, delivered with English
text in the display. To select a different language, see Personalizing
Your Phone, p. 16.
The Time
The time is shown at the bottom of the display. When the phone is
delivered the time is normally not set. To set the time, see p. 22.
How to Turn off the Phone
Press and hold down the NO key until the display is turned off.
Connecting Your TH 688 to a Home Base Station
Please also consult your Home Base station manual on how to connect
your TH 688.

Switch your TH 688 to DECT mode.

Scroll to the
NETWORKS
menu and press YES.

Scroll to Edit list and then press YES. The first free position is
selected automatically. Press YES again. Add net appears.

Press and hold the Search/Register key on your Home Base station
for at least 5 seconds.

Press YES on your phone again. Enter name appears.

Enter a net name, using keys 0-9 (max. 10 characters), and press
YES. Enter PARK appears.

Enter the PARK code (see your Home Base Station) and press YES.
Enter AC appears.

Enter the authentication code and press YES. (This code is to be kept
secret, as it prevents unauthorized use of your station.)

When Add net done appears, press YES and then CLR to return to
Standby mode
