The +5 Volt, +9 Volt, and -9 Volt signals are included to provide power to the optional
SwitchMaster™ 150 MegaHertz professional-grade video switcher. (See Chapter XI:
“Options”.) The IR-Rx pulse line can be used to connect the TheaterMaster to an optional
IR extender. The remaining pinouts conform to the RS-232 standard.
When the SwitchMaster is installed, it connects to TheaterMaster’s RS-232 connector. In
this case, the SwitchMaster’s RS-232 port can be used to connect both the TheaterMaster
and the SwitchMaster to an external system controller. The physical pinouts for the Switch-
Master’s standard DB-9 female connector are:

J. Activating the video enhancer
(SwitchMaster only):
The SwitchMaster’s digital comb filter (composite-to-S-video converter) contains a vertical
enhancer circuit that can increase the vertical picture resolution on some program material.
This vertical enhancement circuitry can be toggled on and off by pressing
Vid-Enh
on page
4 of the remote control’s
TheaterMaster
device. The user is invited to experiment to see
which setting provides superior picture quality.
The vertical enhancer setting (On or Off) is remembered in Standby mode. The status of the
vertical enhancer (On or Off) is displayed in the Features Selection Screen (see figure, page 17).

The Input Data Status Screen (see next page) provides a useful diagnostic tool. It can be
accessed from page 4 of the remote’s

. The Input
Data Status Screen displays:
1. The current sampling frequency (32 kHz, 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz). If no frequency is
displayed, then the frequency is not specified in the incoming bit stream.
